Irena Čajková is an Instructional Professor in Spanish at the University of Chicago's Department of Romance Languages and Literatures (RLL). She has worked full-time at UChicago since 2005 as a lecturer and coordinator in the Spanish Language Program. Her roles include teaching foundational Spanish courses and coordinating programs such as the Odyssey Project en Español. She is affiliated with the Center for East European and Russian/Eurasian Studies and specializes in Hispanic and Luso-Brazilian Studies.
Education:
- B.A. in Spanish and German, DePaul University
- M.A. in Spanish Language and Literature, University of Chicago
Community Engagement: Outside academia, Čajková collaborates with Chicago's Latino and Czech communities. She is a member of the Prague Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International and teaches Czech language, literature, and history at the T. G. Masaryk Czech School in Cicero.
Teaching Focus: She consistently teaches core Spanish courses (SPAN 10100–10300, SPAN 12001, SPAN 23333/33333) and emphasizes language acquisition for research and cultural immersion.
