معرفی
Iosif Galanakis is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Patras, Greece, where he has been a faculty member since 2006. He currently serves as Deputy President of the Department (since 2020) and coordinator of the Department's Research and Management Committee (since 2018), demonstrating active administrative leadership within the institution.
His educational background includes:
- B.Sc. in Physics, University of Athens, 1996
- M.Sc., University of Rennes I, France, 1997
- Ph.D. in Physics, Louis Pasteur University of Strasbourg, France, 2000
Professor Galanakis's research centers on computational materials science with emphasis on magnetic materials and spintronics. His work employs first-principles calculations to investigate electronic structures of Heusler alloys, particularly focusing on spin-gapless semiconductors and half-metallic systems for next-generation magnetoelectronic devices. He explores nanophase and microphase materials to engineer tailored magnetic properties through atomic-level design.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications (2022-2025) reveals a dominant focus on Heusler compounds (80% of articles), with recurring themes including spin-gapless semiconductivity (47%), magnetic interactions (33%), and first-principles methodology development (27%). His work consistently bridges theoretical computation with practical device applications, particularly in spintronic materials design where electronic correlations and structural properties determine functionality.
Professor Galanakis has served as scientific director for three research programs and is currently a member of the management committee for the COST action "EU-MACE" (2023-2027). He actively reviews for over 30 scientific journals and has evaluated numerous national and international research proposals, contributing significantly to the scholarly infrastructure of materials science.
As a member of the "Advisory Board of Editors" for Elsevier's Computational Condensed Matter journal and through his extensive invited talks, he maintains strong engagement with the global research community while advancing computational methodologies for magnetic materials discovery.
