Ioannis Papadimitriou is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, specializing in nuclear and particle physics. He holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Amsterdam, following an undergraduate degree in Physics from Imperial College London. His research focuses on theoretical physics, particularly string theory, quantum field theory, black hole physics, and strongly interacting quantum matter. His work explores topics such as supersymmetry, holography, and the AdS/CFT correspondence.
Key research interests include entanglement entropy in AdS spaces, supersymmetric Casimir energy, black hole thermodynamics, and anomalies in supersymmetric systems. His contributions span theoretical frameworks linking quantum gravity with condensed matter phenomena, including studies of SYK models and Lifshitz holography.
Papadimitriou’s research also addresses holographic renormalization techniques and the variational principles in AdS gravity. He has published extensively on topics such as the holographic attractor mechanism, thermoelectric conductivities in non-conformal theories, and the interplay between string theory and cosmological backgrounds. His work bridges foundational theoretical questions with applications in high-energy physics and quantum field theory.
