Dr Ioannis Lazopoulos is a Senior Lecturer in Economics at the University of Surrey, where he has worked since 2008. Prior to this, he held various roles at Keele University from 2001, where he also earned his PhD with commendation in 2006. He holds a BA in Business and Financial Economics from Staffordshire University and an MSc in Money, Banking and Finance from the University of Birmingham.
Research Interests: His research spans theoretical and applied economics, with a focus on
- microeconomics and information economics
- financial economics, including financial intermediation, stability, and regulation
- contract theory and institutional architecture
- experimental economics, particularly multi-player repeated games
Collaborations and Supervision: He collaborates internationally with Vasco Gabriel (University of Victoria, Canada), Diana Lima (Central Bank of Portugal), and Miriam Al Lily (Prince Mohammad bin Fahd University, Saudi Arabia). He has supervised PhD students Diana Lima (2017) and Onur Akkaya (2016), both completing with minor corrections.
Awards and Recognition: Ioannis is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and contributed to the University of Surrey Economics Department’s Athena Swan Bronze award.
Publications Trends: His work emphasizes financial regulation, central banking, and institutional design, often employing dynamic panel modeling and heterogeneous analysis. Earlier research includes theoretical studies on financial intermediation and experimental evidence in repeated games.
