Melby explores Frida Orupabo’s collages using Emmanuel Levinas’ ethical philosophy and Édouard Glissant’s concept of Opacity to challenge colonial relationality. Her approach emphasizes nonviolent recognition of alterity through embodied vision and the “caress” as a metaphor for sensuous, ambiguous engagement with difference.
