She holds affiliations with the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Critical Care and Anesthesiology departments, and the Groningen Kidney Center. Her research focuses on microvascular endothelial pharmacology, targeted drug delivery, and sepsis-induced pathophysiology. She obtained her PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Groningen in 1992, followed by postdoctoral research at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.
Dr. Molema's expertise includes drug development, inflammatory diseases, and translational research. She has held leadership roles, including Head of the Medical Biology Section and Chair of national funding committees (e.g., ZONMW). She co-founded Vivomicx BV and ThnkSmRt BV, advancing biotechnology innovations. Her work contributes to Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.
Key research interests involve endothelial cell signaling pathways, sepsis, and renal microvascular responses. She has published over 246 articles, with recent works exploring Tie2 signaling, microvascular heterogeneity, and drug delivery systems. Awards include a KNAW fellowship. She actively engages in academic leadership and diversity initiatives, including the Dutch Network of Women Professors.
