Ingrid Matthews serves as Professor of Practice in Historical Performance (Baroque Violin) at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music within the Historical Performance Institute.
Her academic foundation includes graduate studies at Indiana University under renowned pedagogues Josef Gingold and Stanley Ritchie.
Matthews specializes in historically informed performance practices, with research and artistry centered on Baroque violin repertoire, early music interpretation, and chamber music traditions. Her work emphasizes authentic stylistic approaches to 17th- and 18th-century compositions.
Her distinguished honors include:
- First Prize in the Erwin Bodky International Competition for Early Music (1989)
- Top Recommendation for her recording of J.S. Bach: Complete Sonatas and Partitas for Violin by American Record Guide
As a performer, Matthews cofounded the Seattle Baroque Orchestra in 1994 and directed it until 2013. She regularly collaborates with premier ensembles including the New York Collegium, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, Ars Lyrica (Houston), Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (Toronto), and Musica Pacifica (San Francisco) as soloist, concertmaster, and guest director.
