Ingrid K. Shockey is a Teaching Professor at the Global School of Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), affiliated with the Environmental & Sustainability Studies and International & Global Studies departments. She directs the WPI-IIT Mandi India Project Center and co-directs the Wellington (NZ) Project Center, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration between WPI and Indian Institute of Technology students. Her academic roles include teaching field methodologies, cross-cultural stakeholder engagement, and courses like Case Studies in Environmental Governance.
Dr. Shockey holds a PhD in Sociology from Brandeis University (1996), an MA (1991), and a BA (1987) from Clark University. Her research focuses on environmental sociology, climate change perceptions in mountain regions, and ecological design. Notable projects include documenting climate change narratives through student interviews in global communities and advancing sustainability strategies in Himalayan ecologies.
Her work emphasizes community collaboration, evidenced by award-winning student projects addressing environmental challenges in New Zealand, India, and beyond. She has been featured in WPI’s Global Lab Fellowship and contributes to initiatives like the Colorado River Compact documentary. Her advising spans over 150 student projects, with notable recognitions such as President’s IQP Awards.
