Associate Professor Ingrid Gelissen is an academic in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Sydney, serving as Academic Director for Sydney/Camperdown (Pharmacy/Concord). She holds a MAgSci in Nutrition from Wageningen University (Netherlands) and a PhD from the Heart Research Institute/University of Sydney. Her career includes postdoctoral roles at UT Southwestern (USA) and UNSW Sydney, supported by a Vice-Chancellor’s Fellowship. She transitioned to academic roles in 2010, advancing to her current position in 2020. Her research focuses on ABC transporters’ role in Alzheimer’s disease and pharmacists’ roles in nutrition education.
Research interests include amyloid-beta export mechanisms via ABC transporters (e.g., P-glycoprotein) and ABCG1/ABCG4, alongside exploring pharmacists’ contributions to nutrition counseling. Key grants include a 2016 Thompson Fellowship (targeting Alzheimer’s) and a 2010 NHMRC Project Grant (ABCG1 regulation). She supervises HDR student Samar Elsayed on 'Nutrition in Pharmacy Practice'.
