Inge Larsen serves as Associate Professor in Porcine Health Management at the University of Copenhagen's Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, Department of Veterinary and Animal Sciences. Her research focuses on optimizing antimicrobial use in pig disease treatment while minimizing resistance development, umbilical disorders including hernias, and nursery pig diarrhea management.
Research interests center on
- Antimicrobial stewardship in swine production
- Pathogenesis and prevention of umbilical outpouchings
- Neonatal porcine disease diagnostics
- Acute phase protein applications for treatment guidance
- Swine welfare in organic production systems
Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on umbilical disorders (40% of 2024-2025 output), antimicrobial resistance (25%), and diagnostic biomarker validation (20%). Key trends include translational applications of acute phase proteins for antibiotic stewardship and detailed pathological characterization of porcine neonatal conditions.
Larsen actively contributes to professional governance through board memberships in the Danish Pig Veterinary Society (DVHS) and the Animal Experimentation Board. Her committee work bridges academic research with industry applications in swine health management.
Current activities include research collaboration within the Production, Nutrition and Health group and development of swine health education programs for the Danish Veterinary Association.
