Inga Hänelt

Inga Hänelt is Heisenberg Professor (W2, tenured) at Goethe University Frankfurt's Institute of Biochemistry since 2021. Previously holding positions as W1 Professor (2015-2021) and Emmy Noether research group leader at the same institution.

Research investigates membrane transport mechanisms with focus on:

• Potassium transporters/channels in bacterial survival
• Molecular basis of bacterial osmoadaptation
• Regulation of potassium homeostasis via cyclic di-AMP signaling
• Role of ion channels in bacterial intercellular communication

Laboratory employs structural biology and biochemical approaches to characterize transport systems in pathogenic and model bacteria.

Honors include prestigious DFG fellowships (Heisenberg, Emmy Noether), educator awards, and PhD recognition. Affiliations include IMPRES 'Subcellular Architecture and Dynamics', LOEWE 'TRABITA', and DFG Priority Program SPP 1879 on bacterial nucleotide signaling.
