Dr. Indrajit Srivastava is an Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at the Edward E. Whitacre Jr. College of Engineering, Texas Tech University, where he joined as a tenure-track faculty member in Fall 2023. He holds a Ph.D. (2020) and M.S. (2017) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a B.E. (2015) in Metallurgical Engineering & Materials Science from the Indian Institute of Engineering Science & Technology, Shibpur, India.
His research focuses on biomimetic nanoparticles, particularly carbon dots, for fluorescence-guided cancer surgeries, NIR-II imaging, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy. He has pioneered the use of nanomaterials for tumor delineation, hypoxia detection, and correlated optical/photoacoustic imaging, with publications in ACS Nano, Nature Communications, and PNAS.
Recent publications highlight trends in NIR-II emission optimization, machine learning-enhanced biosensing, and biomimetic surface engineering. His work bridges material science, biomedical engineering, and clinical translation.
Scientific Awards:
- Baxter Young Investigator Award
- BMES Career Development Award
- American Chemical Society Future Faculty Scholar
At Texas Tech, Dr. Srivastava mentors undergraduates through the TruE Scholars and URS Scholars programs. He is actively involved in the STEM CORE initiative, emphasizing diversity and inclusion in STEM education.
