Immaculée Harushimana is Professor of English Education and TESOL at Lehman College, CUNY, specializing in critical linguistics, multilingual identities, and anti-racist pedagogies. Her research addresses linguistic justice for marginalized communities, African immigrant educational experiences, and transformative approaches to racial equity in teacher preparation.
Current leadership includes chairing the department's anti-racism/DEI taskforce, developing frameworks for racial justice reform in teacher education programs. Publications examine assimilation threats among young African immigrants, post-Obama perspectives from Black diaspora educators, and strategies for culturally responsive English instruction.
Fulbright awards (1993, 2019) support international dimensions of her work addressing English curriculum implementation in Malawi and transnational educator experiences. Research consistently connects linguistic equity with broader social justice imperatives in educational systems.
