Dr. Immaculate Tumwebaze is a researcher affiliated with the Department of Animal Ecology & Systematics at Justus Liebig University, Giessen, Germany. Her academic background includes a PhD (2017–present), MSc in Natural Resource Conservation (2014–2017), and BSc in Biology (2010–2013) from Mbarara University, Uganda. She specializes in malacology, parasitology, and freshwater ecology, focusing on snail hosts of schistosomiasis and climate change impacts on biodiversity.
Her research interests include molecular biology of freshwater invertebrates, biogeography, and systematics. She has contributed to studies on Schistosoma intermediate hosts in Ugandan crater lakes and the efficacy of Moringa oleifera seeds in water purification. Recent work has explored cryptic snail species critical to liver fluke transmission.
Key awards include DAAD PhD funding, a SYNTHESYS research visit to London's Natural History Museum, and Volkswagen Foundation support for freshwater ecology field studies. She has presented at international malacology conferences and contributed to projects on African pulmonate gastropods' diversification.
Dr. Tumwebaze collaborates on interdisciplinary projects linking ecology, parasitology, and conservation. Her work addresses global health challenges through understanding snail-borne diseases and ecosystem management under climate change.
