Imelda O'Reilly is an Associate Professor at James Madison University's School of Media Arts and Design (SMAD), where she chairs the Madison Screenwriting Committee and directs the JMU in New York Summer Program. Her work blends documentary, hybrid, and fiction filmmaking, exploring themes of memory, displacement, and history through surreal and poetic narratives. She has screened at over 150 festivals globally, earning 36 awards including the Director’s Choice Award and Telly Award.
Her recent projects include a VR adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood and a triptych of short films examining immigrant experiences. Awards and grants include fellowships from the Fulbright Foundation, New York Foundation for the Arts, and NYSCA. She holds an M.F.A. in Film from Columbia University and has taught at NYU TischAsia in Singapore.
Notable works include Eggs and Soldiers, Under the Wolf’s Cloak, and Bricks, Beds and Sheep’s Heads. Her creative writing has appeared in Galway Review and Lothlorien Poetry Journal.
