Imani Perry is the Carol K. Pforzheimer Professor at Harvard Radcliffe Institute and the Henry A. Morss, Jr. and Elisabeth W. Morss Professor of Studies of Women, Gender and Sexuality and African and African American Studies at Harvard University. She is a multidisciplinary scholar whose work interrogates Black thought, art, and resistance to systemic oppression.

Her research explores the interplay between social progress, retrenchment, and the persistence of freedom dreams in Black communities. Her publications span nonfiction, cultural analysis, and biography, with a focus on Southern U.S. history, racial identity, and artistic expression.
