Dr. Alaie's research focuses primarily on clinical child and adolescent psychology, with particular emphasis on depression and anxiety disorders across the lifespan. Their work examines the long-term consequences of childhood and adolescent mental health problems, including impacts on labor market participation, sickness absence patterns, and overall adult functioning. A significant portion of their research utilizes longitudinal and twin study designs to disentangle genetic, environmental, and psychological factors influencing mental health trajectories. Their expertise spans psychiatric epidemiology, developmental psychopathology, and social psychiatry.
Analysis of Dr. Alaie's recent publications reveals a strong focus on the relationship between adolescent mental health conditions (particularly depression) and later-life outcomes including labor market marginalization, sickness absence, disability pension, and physical health consequences. Their work frequently employs sophisticated longitudinal data analysis techniques and twin study methodologies to address questions of causality and account for familial factors. The research spans multiple disciplines including psychiatric epidemiology, social psychiatry, and occupational health, with consistent contributions to high-impact journals across these fields.
Dr. Alaie has secured multiple significant research grants as both main applicant and co-applicant, including funding from AFA Insurance (3,700,000 SEK in 2024), the Swedish Research Council (3,000,000 SEK and 2,400,000 SEK in 2023), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (74,800 CAN in 2023), and Forte (2,000,000 SEK in 2022).
