Dr. Ilir Gashi is a Reader and Director of the Centre for Software Reliability at City St George's, University of London. He has held significant academic and administrative roles since 2003, including Head of the Department of Computer Science (2019-2023), Director of Undergraduate Programmes, and Course Director for the MSc in Management of Information Security and Risk. His research focuses on quantitative assessment of software dependability and security, particularly through design diversity (also known as defense in depth or layered defense) across domains like operating systems, databases, and machine learning-based malware detectors.
Research Trends: His publications highlight applications of design diversity in cybersecurity, including
- Malware detection via federated learning
- Threat intelligence from social media
- Vulnerability prediction models
- Cluster-based system security assessments
Grants & Projects: He is Principal Investigator for the EPSRC ICASE grant on Generative AI for Cybersecurity Response (2024-2029), and previously led the EPSRC D3S and EU DiSIEM projects. He has collaborated on EU ReSIST, AMBER, and DSTL-sponsored DOTS/DIRC initiatives.
