Norwegian University of Science And Technologyمعرفی
Ilangko Sellappah Balasingham is a Professor of Medical Signal Processing and Communications at NTNU’s Department of Electronic Systems. He leads the Signal Processing Group and holds dual appointments at the Intervention Center, Oslo University Hospital. His research focuses on super-robust short-range communications for biomedical applications, body area sensor networks, and molecular communication networks. Balasingham earned both his MSc and PhD in signal processing from NTNU.
His work spans over 20 years of leadership in projects such as the EU-funded B-CRATOS (brain-computer interfaces) and CLIPEUS (nanonetworks for infectious disease prediction), alongside Norwegian initiatives like 5G-HEART and WINNOW. Key areas include nanoscale communication systems, wireless in-body sensors, and cybersecurity in healthcare. Balasingham has coordinated over NOK 100 million in grants, with recent projects addressing personalized cancer treatment models and RF sensor development for cardiac health monitoring.
Publications emphasize molecular communication channels, extracellular vesicle-based drug delivery, and biomedical implant systems. His research bridges signal processing, nanotechnology, and clinical applications, with a focus on translating theoretical models into practical healthcare solutions.
