Ilana F. Silber is Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Bar-Ilan University, Israel. Her research focuses on sociological theory, the sociology of gift-giving and philanthropy, and comparative historical and interpretative cultural analysis. She has conducted empirical research on elite philanthropy in Israel, the history of the nonprofit sector, and changing patterns of charity across time and cultures.

Her work bridges human sciences (history, cultural studies, religion) and alternative branches of sociological theory. She has collaborated internationally and engaged in theoretical dialogues with M.A.U.S.S (Movement against Utilitarianism in the Social Sciences) since 1998.
