معرفی
Professor Ilan Davis is a leading researcher in RNA biology and Drosophila neuroscience at the University of Glasgow. He previously held positions at University of Oxford (2007-2023) and University of Edinburgh (1996-2007) as a Wellcome Trust Fellow and Senior Fellow. His work focuses on post-transcriptional gene regulation, synaptic plasticity, neural stem cell dynamics, and advanced microscopy methods, with significant contributions to understanding RNA localization and viral infection mechanisms.
Dr. Davis received a DPhil from Oxford University and completed a Natural Sciences degree at Cambridge before postdoctoral research at UCSF. His lab has pioneered single-molecule RNA imaging (smFISH), adaptive optics microscopy (IsoSense, Python-Microscope), and computational analysis tools like ParticleStats and CytoCensus.
- 2023: Lab moved to University of Glasgow as part of new Spatial Biology research group
- 2024: NIH grant for ALS research via TDP-43-mediated RNA localization
- 2025: Key publication on Imp/IGF2BP and Syp/SYNCRIP RNA interactomes in Science Advances
His research team includes Dr. Jeffrey Lee, Dr. Sofia Polcownuk, and Dr. Danail Stoychev. Recent work explores RNA virus detection in Drosophila and neurodegenerative disease mechanisms using fly models.
- Scientific Recognition: EMBO Member (2010), Wellcome Trust awards
- Technology Development: CryoSIM, Python-Microscope, RNA2DSearch
- Labs: Established labs at Edinburgh, Oxford, now Glasgow
