Ikram Toumi is an Associate Professor at the School of Communication Studies, part of the College of Communication & Information at Kent State University. She holds a Ph.D. in Media Studies from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master’s in Applied Linguistics from Texas Tech University. Her research focuses on ICT’s role in social change, media literacy, globalization, immigration, and transnational communication. She has extensive teaching experience in Arabic, French, and media studies courses.

Her research explores ICT adoption in post-revolution Tunisia, transnational family communication, and media’s role in social movements. Recent work addresses decolonization in transnational education and gender dynamics in African contexts. She has presented globally on topics like digital divides, media literacy among elderly migrants, and Middle Eastern democracy.
Publications span journals like Media, Culture, and Society and Journal of Science Communication, with a focus on Tunisia, Latin America, and global media flows. Her work often intersects technology, identity, and cultural adaptation.
