Igor Mishustin is a Professor at the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS), specializing in theoretical subatomic physics and astrophysics. He holds a PhD and Doctor of Sciences degree from the Kurchatov Institute and has held prestigious roles such as Carlsberg Professor at the Niels Bohr Institute and Humboldt Awardee at Goethe University. His research focuses on phase transitions in strongly interacting matter, compact stars, and applications of ion beams in cancer therapy.
Education: BSc/MSc in Theoretical Physics & Astrophysics from Moscow State University, PhD and Habilitation from Kurchatov Institute.
Research interests include relativistic heavy-ion collisions, Bose-Einstein condensation, neutron star dynamics, and laser-driven fusion technologies. Recent work explores nanoantenna-driven proton acceleration and phase diagrams of bosonic matter.
Awards: Humboldt Research Award, Carlsberg Foundation Professorship, DAAD Professorship. His contributions span over 200 peer-reviewed articles addressing topics from quark-gluon plasma to medical physics applications.
Advising: Supervised numerous PhD/Diploma students across multiple institutions. Active in FAIR collaboration for antiproton and ion research. Lab affiliations include FIAS Theoretical Physics Research Groups and international collaborations in nuclear astrophysics.
