Professor Igor Guz is the Executive Dean of the School of Engineering & Physical Sciences at Heriot-Watt University. Previously, he held roles such as Head of the School of Engineering at the University of Aberdeen (2013–2021) and became a Sixth Century Chair in Solid Mechanics in 2010. His academic journey includes positions at institutions like Imperial College London and Cambridge University.
Education: He holds a Doctor of Sciences (DSc) from the Timoshenko Institute of Mechanics.
Research Interests: Solid mechanics, advanced anisotropic materials, fracture mechanics, nanomaterials, and coupled thermoelectromechanical systems. He has authored over 350 publications, including 4 books, and founded the Centre for Micro- and Nanomechanics (CEMINACS) in 2004.
Awards and Honors: Recipient of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science & Technology, Humboldt Fellowship, and Lisa Meitner Fellowship. Elected Fellow of SNAME (2016) and Extraordinary Professor at Pusan National University (2018).
Professional Activities: Editor-in-Chief of Composites and Advanced Materials since 2019, Board Member of SRPe (Scottish Research Partnership in Engineering), and organizer of Euromech Colloquium 400 (London). Collaborates closely with industry to advance innovation and training.
Labs and Teams: Founded CEMINACS, an internationally recognized center for heterogeneous media mechanics.
