Idil Uz Akdogan is a Lecturer (Teaching) in Economics at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) at University College London (UCL). She specializes in applied economics, policy administration, political science, development studies, and international finance. As Director of the MA Economics and Business programs at SSEES, she teaches modules on European Macroeconomics, International Macroeconomic Policy, and International Trade at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Dr. Akdogan holds a PhD in European Economics from Marmara University (Istanbul), alongside undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Nottingham. Her research focuses on monetary policy dynamics, exchange rate determination, macroeconomic stability in emerging economies, and the interplay between fiscal, monetary, and trade policies.
Her scholarly work explores topics including currency risk premiums, central bank interventions, capital flow management, and structural breaks in economic relationships. Her articles frequently analyze Turkey and other emerging European economies, emphasizing policy responses to crises like the 2020 pandemic.
Dr. Akdogan has contributed to over 20 peer-reviewed articles since 2004, with recent work addressing post-COVID monetary policy frameworks and nonlinear approaches to macroeconomic imbalances. She actively engages with the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through her research and teaching.
