Ida Hillerup Hansen

Dr. Ida Hillerup Hansen is a Lecturer in Gender and Postcolonial Studies at the Department of Media and Culture Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Utrecht University since 2023. They are actively involved in the Graduate Gender Studies Programme and contribute to the academic community through research, teaching, and organizational activities related to gender, postcolonial, and queer death studies.

Dr. Hansen's educational background includes:

• Ph.D. in Gender Studies (2017-2023) - Dual doctoral degree from Central European University and Utrecht University
• Master of Arts in Critical Gender Studies (2015-2017) - Central European University, graduated with distinction
• Bachelor in Human Rights (2011-2014) - Malmö University

Dr. Hansen's research focuses on the intersections of gender studies, postcolonial theory, and death studies. Their work explores onto-epistemology and anti-essentialism in queer, black and postcolonial scholarship, feminist and queer uses of psychoanalytic theory, and critical approaches to biomedicine and psychiatry. Specific interests include theories of trauma, affect and embodiment, as well as bio- and necropolitics. They are particularly known for their work on grief as a queer performative reckoning, as evidenced in their PhD dissertation "Being Through Loss: A Queer Performative Reckoning with Grief".

Dr. Hansen's scholarly contributions include co-editing a special issue for the journal Mortality on Queer Death Studies with Professor emerita Nina Lykke. They are an active member of the Queer Death Studies Network and co-founder of the Relation(al) Matters Archive with Professor dr. Kathrin Thiele.

Dr. Hansen is actively involved in academic leadership as the main coordinator of the NOISE Summer School 2024 on Queer Death Studies: Loss and Grief in Contemporary Bio- and Necropolitics organized by the Netherlands Research School of Gender Studies. Their work bridges theoretical scholarship with creative practices through various speaking engagements, panel moderations, and workshop coordinations at cultural institutions and academic conferences internationally.
