Ida Helene Steen is a Professor in the Department of Biosciences at the University of Bergen (UiB), where she conducts pioneering research on deep-sea hydrothermal vent systems. Her work integrates culturing techniques, molecular biology, biochemistry, and geochemistry to understand microbial physiology in extreme environments. She teaches courses BIO318, BIO299, BIO219, and BIO104, contributing significantly to marine biology education at UiB.
