Ibette Valle is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at Northern Illinois University. Her research focuses on Latine/x educational pathways, identity development among racially and ethnically marginalized first-generation college students, and social representations of race, ethnicity, gender, and social class in family and education contexts. She is engaged in community-based research and examines the role of Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) in advancing educational equity.
Valle’s recent publications explore themes such as class inequities in higher education, home-school mismatches for marginalized students, and the intersection of food insecurity with academic performance at HSIs. Her work emphasizes the navigational capital of minoritized students and the emotional complexities of family achievement guilt.
She teaches courses including Research Methods (PSYC 305), Latine/x Psychology (PSYC 495/LATS 400), and Introduction to Latino Studies (LATS 101). Her office is located in PM 563 or LC111.
