Ianina Altshuler

Ianina Altshuler is a Tenure Track Assistant Professor at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), affiliated with the Institute of Environmental Engineering (IIE) within the School of Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering (ENAC). She leads the Laboratory for Microbiome Adaptation to the Changing Environment (MACE) and holds teaching appointments in SSIE and EDCE. Her work is based at EPFL Valais Wallis in Sion, with offices in GR C1 537 and ALP 3 702.

Her research focuses on microbiome ecology and adaptation in changing environments, leveraging bioinformatics and meta-omics approaches. She teaches courses including Microbial Ecology, Biology, and Hands-on Bioinformatics for Microbial Meta-Omics, reflecting her interdisciplinary expertise in environmental sciences and computational biology.

She actively supervises doctoral students in the Environmental Sciences and Engineering program and contributes to the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology and Biological Engineering as a member of its committee. Her academic work emphasizes environmental microbiology, microbial community responses to environmental change, and the application of advanced computational methods to microbial datasets.

She is involved in teaching and doctoral education across multiple units at EPFL, including SSIE-ENS and EDCE-ENS, demonstrating a strong commitment to academic training and interdisciplinary collaboration.
