Ian Wiblin is a Senior Lecturer in Photography/Documentary Photography at the University of South Wales, Faculty of Business and Creative Industries. His work explores the intersection of photography, film, and architecture with themes of place, history, and memory. He holds a BA in Media Production Design from the London College of Printing and a PhD in Photography titled 'The elusive subject: Representing the abstract and unseen history of place with photography.'
Wiblin has exhibited internationally, including at The Photographers' Gallery (London), Sprengel Museum (Hanover), and the International Film Festival Rotterdam. Notable works include the long-form films Four Parts of a Folding Screen (2018) and Stella Polare (2006), which investigate historical narratives through architectural and cinematic mediums. His collaborative projects with Anthea Kennedy blend documentary approaches with experimental techniques.
His research spans photographic theory, urban studies, and the relationship between art and architecture. Publications include chapters in Credo Credit Crisis (2017) and Camera Constructs (2012), alongside articles in Performance Research and History of Photography. He received Arts Council England funding for Four Parts of a Folding Screen (2018) and has presented at conferences such as the Radical Film Network (Dublin, 2018).
Wiblin teaches critical theory and practice on the BA Photography course at USW, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to still and moving image. He is affiliated with the Creative Industries Research and Innovation Group.
