Ian Whishaw is a Professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge, where he holds a Board of Governors Chair in Neuroscience. He is affiliated with the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience (CCBN) and has held visiting appointments at several prestigious institutions including the University of Texas, University of Michigan, Cambridge University, and the University of Strasbourg.

Whishaw's research focuses on the origins and use of the hand, with current projects in hand use development in infancy, nonhuman primates, and in Parkinson's and Huntington's disease. His work also spans spatial navigation, Parkinson's disease, and stroke in both animals and humans. He is particularly interested in how motor system injuries or diseases affect precise bodily movements.
His research is supported by major funding agencies including the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the Canadian Stroke Network.

Whishaw is the author of three influential books: "Fundamentals of Human Neuropsychology" (2009), "Introduction to Brain and Behavior" (2010), and "The Behavior of the Laboratory Rat" (2005). He teaches an introductory course on Brain and Behavior and a senior seminar on Neurological Diseases.
He conducts his research at the Canadian Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience, utilizing both rodent and human models to study motor control and neurological disorders.
