Ian Pennock is a Research Fellow at the University of Sussex, specifically working at the Sussex Vision Lab within the School of Psychology. He works alongside Professor Jenny Bosten and focuses on color and object perception in the visual system using neuroimaging techniques.
Dr. Pennock completed his PhD at the Sussex Vision Lab and Sussex Colour Group in 2023. His educational background includes a dual Master's degree from the University of Osnabrück (Artificial Intelligence & Neuroinformatics) and the University of Trento (Cognitive Neuroscience), and a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences from University College Roosevelt with majors in Cognitive Science, Psychology, and Philosophy.
His research primarily investigates how the brain processes color information within the visual system, with a particular focus on how color perception relates to object recognition. Using advanced neuroimaging techniques including ultra-high-field fMRI, he examines how the brain responds to natural scenes and how color information contributes to visual object recognition. His recent work has revealed important insights about food-selective regions in the ventral visual pathway that are also color-biased.
Dr. Pennock has presented his research at international conferences including ECVP and the Colour Workshop in Rauschlosshausen, Germany. His work contributes significantly to our understanding of how color and form information are integrated in the brain to create our visual experience of the world.
