Ian McCready-Flora is an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Admissions at the Corcoran Department of Philosophy, University of Virginia. He holds a B.A. in Philosophy from Swarthmore College, an M.A. in Philosophy from the University of Michigan, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Michigan.
His primary research focuses on Ancient Greek Philosophy, especially Aristotle's theories of rationality and cognition. Key projects include a book-length study on human belief formation as a distinguishing feature of rationality, comparative analyses of human and animal cognition, and examinations of Protagoras' influence on Aristotelian thought. Additional research explores the history of emotions, ancient epistemology, and intersections between classical philosophy and contemporary cognitive science.
McCready-Flora's publications consistently engage with Aristotelian and Platonic philosophy, analyzing themes like rationality, belief, sensation, and emotion through both historical and modern cognitive frameworks. His work frequently bridges ancient texts with contemporary philosophy of mind, demonstrating how classical theories inform current debates in epistemology and psychology.
