Dr. Ian Ingram is a Senior Lecturer in Organic & Green Chemistry at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). His research focuses on sustainable materials, particularly bio-based polymers and recycling solutions for the plastics industry. He holds an MChem from the University of Oxford (2009) and a PhD in Materials Chemistry from the University of Manchester (2013). Prior to joining MMU, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Green Chemistry Centre of Excellence in York, developing bio-based polymers.
Education:
- MChem in Chemistry, University of Oxford, 2009
- PhD in Materials Chemistry, University of Manchester, 2013
Research Interests: Dr. Ingram’s work emphasizes sustainable chemistry, including the synthesis of bio-based polymers (e.g., from soybean oil and furfuryl alcohol), recycling technologies, and green polymerization methods. He explores applications in renewable polyurethanes, carbon dioxide valorization, and Hansen solubility parameter analysis for material characterization.
Recent Research Trends: His 2023 publications highlight bio-based plasticizers for PVC and analytical techniques for polymer compatibility. Earlier work (2019–2016) focuses on biomass-derived monomers, ring-opening metathesis polymerization, and sustainable catalysis. These efforts align with transitioning the plastics industry toward circular economy principles.
Scientific Awards: None explicitly mentioned.
Advising & Grants: No student advisees listed. His research is supported by collaborations in green chemistry and sustainable materials.
Labs & Teams: His work is part of MMU’s broader initiatives in organic and green chemistry, contributing to interdisciplinary efforts in sustainable materials science.
