Ian Drake is an Associate Professor of Political Science and Law at Montclair State University's College of Humanities and Social Sciences. He holds a B.A. in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a J.D. from the University of Richmond School of Law, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Maryland at College Park. His research focuses on American legal and political history, constitutional law, and environmental law, with recent work examining animal protection laws, First Amendment rights, and the intersection of tort law and political economy.

His current projects include research on ag-gag laws' legal tensions and the historical roots of American private law systems.
