معرفی
Ian D. Odell, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Yale University School of Medicine. He serves as the Director of the Adult Primary Care Center and maintains affiliations with multiple programs including the Autoimmune Skin Disease Program, Dermatology Human and Translational Immunology Program, Medical Dermatology, Molecular Medicine Program in Translational Biomedicine, and the Scleroderma Program at Yale.
Dr. Odell received his Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University in 2005, followed by a PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from the University of Vermont in 2011. He earned his MD from the University of Vermont in 2013, completed his internship there in 2016, and finished his residency at Yale University in 2017.
As a physician-scientist, Dr. Odell maintains an active clinical practice at the Yale Medicine dermatology office in Branford, CT, where he treats a wide range of dermatologic conditions including autoimmune diseases such as lupus and scleroderma (systemic sclerosis), skin cancer, acne, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis/eczema, and blistering skin diseases. His laboratory research primarily focuses on the role of the immune system in scleroderma and chronic graft-versus-host disease, two immune-mediated processes that cause tightening of the skin. His work spans fibrosis mechanisms, immune cell function, and novel therapeutic approaches for autoimmune skin conditions.
Dr. Odell's extensive publication record demonstrates a strong focus on scleroderma pathogenesis, fibrosis mechanisms, and innovative treatments for autoimmune skin diseases. His research often involves collaborations with leading immunologists and dermatologists, particularly in the areas of myeloid cell biology, cytokine signaling, and translational applications of basic science discoveries. His work bridges clinical dermatology with fundamental immunological research, contributing significantly to our understanding of autoimmune skin disorders.
- Dr. Philip Moskowitz Prize for achievements in the field of Autoimmunity (2022)
- 2022 Young Physician-Scientist Award
- YCCI Scholar Award (2017)
- Career Development Award from the Dermatology Foundation (2017)
- Dermatologist Investigator Research Fellowship (2016)
As a dedicated educator, Dr. Odell is involved with the Yale Combined Program in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS) and contributes to medical student education and residency training at Yale. His research is supported by various grants that enable his investigations into the genetic and molecular drivers of scleroderma and related fibrotic diseases.
Dr. Odell leads research efforts within Yale's Scleroderma Program and collaborates extensively with the Human and Translational Immunology Program. His laboratory work focuses on understanding the immune mechanisms underlying skin fibrosis, with particular emphasis on dendritic cell function, cytokine signaling pathways, and potential therapeutic targets for scleroderma and graft-versus-host disease.
