Ian Andrew Isherwood is an Associate Professor of War and Memory Studies at Gettysburg College, with affiliations to the Interdisciplinary Studies Department and the History Department. His research focuses on the intersections of war experience, historical memory, and cultural representations of conflict, particularly in the context of the First World War and the American Civil War.

His scholarly work examines the social memory of war, commercial publishing during the First World War, and the pedagogical applications of digital humanities. He has authored and co-edited several books, including Remembering the Great War and The Battalion: Citizen Soldiers at War on the Western Front, and contributes to journals like War in History and The Journal of Military History. His projects often bridge archival research with digital tools, such as the First World War Letters of H.J.C. Peirs digital history initiative.
Isherwood's academic contributions have earned him fellowships from the Royal Historical Society and the International Society for First World War Studies, as well as leadership roles at the U.S. Army War College and the University of Oxford. He also engages in public scholarship through podcasting and outdoor writing.
