Iakovos Venieris

Iakovos Venieris is a Professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), with over 350 publications and leadership of the ICBNet research group. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from NTUA (1990) and a Dipl.-Ing. from the University of Patras (1988).

• Research Interests: Distributed systems, security & privacy, machine learning in networks, wireless communications, intelligent networks, and communications software architecture.

His scientific contributions span federated learning for 6G/IIoT, MIMO-OFDMA optimization, privacy-aware access control, and intelligent broadband networks. Recent works focus on stacked intelligent metasurfaces, beamforming, and constraint-aware edge AI.

• Awards: Recipient of multiple national and international academic awards, with papers nominated for top conference honors (e.g., EuCAP 2015 Best Paper, GIIS 2018 Best Student Paper).
• Leadership Roles: Director of ICBNet, contributor to IEEE/ACM journals, and co-editor of foundational books on broadband networks and object-oriented software.
• Projects: Led national/international initiatives in network management, telehealth platforms (inCASA), and cyber-physical system standardization.
