Iain McDonald is a Research Fellow in the Astronomy and Astrophysics Theory Group at the University of Manchester, specializing in computational astrophysics and stellar evolution studies.
Research focuses on theoretical modeling of nonequilibrium astrophysical systems, including evolved stars and extrasolar planets. Current projects investigate molecular inventories of oxygen-rich stars using ALMA data, machine learning approaches for stellar classification, and automated spectral energy distribution analysis.
Publications demonstrate advanced computational techniques applied to stellar spectroscopy and photometry, with recent work developing PySSED for automated stellar spectral fitting. Collaborations span international observatories and data science initiatives.
