Hülya Yavaş is a Researcher and Doctoral candidate at Istanbul Technical University's Faculty of Architecture and Design, Department of Architectural Design. She holds a B.Sc. in Architecture (2019) and an M.Sc. in Architectural Design (2023) from the same institution. Her current research focuses on spatial perception, neurophenomenology, and architectural representation, particularly exploring atypical forms of spatial perception and neuroarchitecture.
- Education:
- Bachelor's in Architecture, Istanbul Technical University (2019)
- Master's in Architectural Design, Istanbul Technical University (2023)
- Doctoral Research in Architectural Design (Ongoing)
Her research interests straddle the intersection of neuroscience and architecture, investigating how cognitive processes and sensory experiences shape spatial understanding. Notable projects include a sensory experiment on Istanbul’s urban spaces and studies on spatial distortion in architectural contexts. She has conducted research at AURA Istanbul Architecture and Urbanism Research Academy, focusing on synesthetic experiences and multi-sensory representations of place.
Publications highlight her exploration of extreme spatial realities, neurological disorders' impact on spatial perception, and innovative architectural education methodologies. While no specific awards are listed, her work demonstrates a commitment to interdisciplinary research bridging architecture, neuroscience, and urban studies.
Her doctoral research continues to explore unconventional spatial paradigms, with potential applications in neuroarchitecture and adaptive design environments.
