Hyunmin Yi is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Tufts University, where he also serves as the undergraduate curriculum chair. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland (2003) and M.S./B.S. degrees from Seoul National University (Korea). His research focuses on nanobiofabrication, smart biopolymers, BioMEMS, and material science, with applications in biomedical, environmental, and biotechnology fields. Yi has authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles and holds multiple patents.
Key research interests include controlled fabrication of functional materials at micro/nano scales, such as biosensors, biophotonic devices, and nanocatalysts. He has secured NSF grants for membrane engineering and viral-templated nanomaterials. Yi is active in professional service, organizing conferences like AIChE and KSEA events, and has delivered over 40 invited talks globally.
His teaching portfolio includes courses on chemical separations, biotechnology, and materials science. Yi’s work bridges biological materials and engineering, emphasizing programmable properties for practical applications. His lab develops advanced fabrication techniques for customizable materials, including hydrogel-based systems and catalytic nanocomposites.
