Hyong Kim is the Drew D. Perkins Chaired Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and Director of CMU-Thailand. He has been at CMU since 1990, leading research in network architectures, fault-tolerant systems, and cloud computing management. His work includes the Tera ATM switch architecture licensed to AMD and Samsung, and he has founded startups like Scalable Networks and AcceLight Networks.

Research focuses on scalable network architectures, distributed computing, and logistics optimization through Smart Logistics software. His team’s work with ThaiBev aims to reduce operational costs and enhance anomaly detection in supply chains.
Scientific achievements include over 130 publications and 10 patents. In 2019, his team won the Best Paper Award at the IEEE Conference on Blockchain for their work on Bitcoin attack detection.
Advising and collaborations: Advises PhD and master’s students through CMU-Thailand and leads international initiatives like CyLab Korea. Current projects include smart infrastructure development and blockchain applications.
Labs/Teams: Directs CMU-Thailand and collaborates with King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) in Thailand. Affiliated with CyLab and Carnegie Mellon-Portugal.
