Dr. Hwasung Yeom serves as an Associate Scientist in the Department of Nuclear Engineering and Engineering Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with additional affiliation to the College of Engineering. His office is located in room 911 of the Engineering Research Building at 1500 Engineering Drive, Madison, WI 53706, and he can be contacted at (608) 263-2760 or hyeom@wisc.edu.
His research focuses on nuclear materials engineering, specializing in surface coating technologies, low-temperature additive manufacturing, and experimental evaluation of thermo-mechanical properties. Key investigation areas include radiation effects on engineered materials, high-temperature oxidation behavior, and nuclear fuel cladding performance under accident conditions. This work bridges fundamental materials science with practical nuclear safety applications.
Dr. Yeom has led industry collaborations with Framatome and Westinghouse Electric Company on advanced fuel cladding development, and secured funding through multiple U.S. Department of Energy programs including NEET, NEUP, and NSUF. He serves as an invited reviewer for DOE-NE SBIR programs, CINR proposals, and NSUF initiatives.
A member of the American Nuclear Society and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), he actively participates in TMS's Nuclear Materials Committee, contributing to professional standards and research direction in nuclear materials science.
