Professor Huyen Nguyen is an Assistant Professor of Financial Economics at Friedrich Schiller University Jena and a member of the Department of Financial Markets at the Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH). She has held these positions since October 2019, concurrently leading the Research Group on Risk Shifting in Financial Markets and Sustainable Finance at IWH. Her research focuses on sustainable finance, housing markets, empirical banking practices, and broader financial economics topics.

Her research interests integrate quantitative methods to examine how financial institutions respond to regulatory changes, climate risks, and market dynamics. Key areas include the role of securitization in mitigating credit risk, the impact of multiculturalism on housing markets, and the implications of supply chain disruptions on corporate performance.
Her publications highlight innovative analyses such as the strategic use of loan securitization to offload carbon transition risks and the unintended consequences of deposit market deregulation on mortgage funding. Recent work explores how multicultural neighborhoods generate price premiums through enhanced liquidity and diverse demand.
Before her current roles, she served as a Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol and held visiting roles at the Bank of England, Deutsche Bundesbank, and IMF. Her professional background includes banking risk management in Vietnam (Vietinbank).
