Hussein Zeaiter is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Lebanese American University (LAU), based in Beirut. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) and an MA in Applied Economics from Eastern Michigan University. His research focuses on sovereign debt dynamics in developing economies, the impact of oil prices on the US economy, and the intersection of corruption, democracy, and economic development. He also engages in consultancy work and is affiliated with an international academic organization.
Teaching interests include advanced macroeconomics, managerial finance, financial markets, and international economics. His research has been published in journals such as International Review of Economics and Finance, Journal of Developing Areas, and Journal of Economic Research.
Zeaiter’s recent articles analyze sovereign debt defaults, sub-regional economic identities, and oil price impacts. His 2016 study on MENA sovereign defaults highlights regional vulnerabilities, while his 2010 work explores oil price shocks on the US economy. His 2015 paper on sub-regional identities underscores tailored policy approaches for economic development.
