Dr. Huiliang (Evan) Wang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas at Austin, leading the Wang Lab. His research focuses on neuroengineering, bioelectronics, and biomaterials for clinical and neuroscience applications. He holds a BSc in Materials Science from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Stanford University, followed by postdoctoral work with Karl Deisseroth at Stanford Bioengineering.
His work emphasizes developing minimally-invasive neural interfacing tools using nanotechnology and wearable electronics. Key projects include hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks for targeted neuromodulation and ultrasound-programmable delivery systems. He has received prestigious awards such as the NSF CAREER Award and NIH grants, and his lab collaborates with institutions like Dell Medical School and EPFL.
- Education: BSc (Oxford), PhD (Stanford), Postdoc (Stanford Bioengineering)
- Grants: NSF CAREER, NIH R35 MIRA, DoD DARPA
- Lab Activities: Focus on wearable brain-computer interfaces, stroke rehabilitation systems, and Alzheimer’s disease technologies
His team includes notable advisees such as Kevin Tang (NSF GRFP) and Anakaren Romero (NSF GRFP), and he mentors undergraduates like Thomas Wynn (Fulbright Scholar). The lab’s innovations have been recognized through awards like the Best Symposium Presentation at MRS 2024 and the ASEE Teaching Award.
