His research focuses on population health inequalities, aging, mortality trends, and the interplay of social structures with health outcomes. Key areas include the impact of income inequality, immigration status, and workplace environments on health disparities. Zheng has pioneered methods to analyze cohort trends, mortality selection, and the role of socioeconomic factors in health outcomes.
His work has been supported by grants from the CDC and NIH, and he serves as Deputy-Editor for Demography, alongside editorial roles at major journals. Notable awards include the Eliot Freidson Award (2019) and the IPUMS Health Surveys Award (2022). Recent projects address rising health challenges in the U.S., nativity disparities in health outcomes, and cognitive aging mechanisms.
