Hui Huang is an Associate Professor at the School of Social Work, University of Texas at Arlington. Previously, he held positions at Florida International University (2013–2022) and served as a Research Assistant at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Children and Family Research Center (2007–2013). His academic background includes a PhD and MSW from the University of Illinois (2013), an MS in Statistics (2010), and degrees from Xiamen University, China (BA Social Work, 2004; MA Social Work, 2007).
Research focuses on child welfare systems, foster care outcomes, substance use disorders in vulnerable populations, and immigrant family dynamics. Key interests include policy evaluation, youth transition services, and interventions addressing mental health disparities. He actively collaborates with agencies like Florida Institute for Child Welfare and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
Recent grants include a multi-site randomized trial for foster youth postsecondary access (Washington State University, 2024–2025) and an NIH-funded project using storytelling to reduce diabetes in Hispanic communities (2024). He has advised numerous doctoral and master’s students and serves on editorial boards for journals like Journal of Public Child Welfare and Residential Treatment for Children & Youth.
Teaching responsibilities include courses on clinical assessment in child maltreatment and advanced statistical applications. Professional service includes leadership roles in the Society for Social Work Research (SSWR) and mentorship for McNair Scholars and Emerging Mavericks programs.
