Hugo Sanjurjo González is an Associate Professor at the University of Deusto, based in the Department of Information, Electronics, and Communication Technologies within the Faculty of Engineering. He holds a PhD in Intelligent Systems from the University of León, awarded Summa Cum Laude for his work on corpus analysis frameworks. His teaching spans modules in Databases, NLP, Software Engineering, and Intelligent Systems, alongside workshops in Computational Linguistics.
His research focuses on interdisciplinary NLP, corpus linguistics, and computational linguistics, with specializations in multilingual corpus tools, LLM integration, and semantic annotation. He has developed applications like the Hansard at Huddersfield web tool and the O-WEAA ontology-based writing assistant, aiming to democratize corpus-based methods for non-experts. His work also addresses challenges in cross-linguistic communication for professional writing, such as corporate reports and culinary menus.
Key contributions include the Berri Corpus Manager (using MongoDB), the ACTRES Parallel Corpus, and tools for evaluating translations (e.g., PETRA 1.0). His publications emphasize user-centered design, genre analysis, and domain-specific CNL development, reflecting a blend of computational and linguistic innovation.
Notable projects include BiTeX for recipe translation and GEDIRE for directors' reports, leveraging corpus data to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps. His work intersects with big data techniques, visualization tools (e.g., D3.js), and semantic tagging systems like USAS.
