Hugo Filipe Silveira Gamboa is a Full Professor at the Physics Department of the Nova School of Science and Technology (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa). He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and has been a leading researcher in biomedical engineering and biosignal processing since 2009. His work focuses on developing innovative wearable sensor systems and machine learning applications for healthcare.
Education:
- Licenciatura (BSc) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, IST – UL (1999)
- Doutoramento (PhD) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, IST – UL (2008)
Research interests include:
- Biomedical signal processing for disease diagnosis
- Machine learning in medical applications
- Wearable sensor systems for occupational ergonomics
- Human-AI collaboration in clinical decision-making
Recent publications highlight advancements in:
- Clinical data imputation methods
- Covid-19 diagnosis through vocal analysis
- ALS detection via electromyography
- Workplace fatigue assessment using biosensors
He has received prestigious awards including the EBF European Biometric Research Award (2007 finalist) and the Portuguese National Futuras Promessas Award (2008). His research group at LIBPHYS includes 3 researchers and 6 PhD students. He is founder and scientific director of PLUX, a medical sensor technology company.
